Bernard Pagès, born in Cahors, France, in 1940, is a renowned French sculptor. He is particularly known for his involvement in the artistic movement Supports/Surfaces starting from 1967. This artistic movement, characterized by a questioning of traditional supports for painting and sculpture, left a significant mark on the French artistic landscape of the time.
In 1983, the Centre Pompidou dedicated an exhibition to him, showcasing his imposing columns made of stone and masonry. These installations, often monumental in scale, reflect his exploration of materials and space.
Toni Grand, on the other hand, was also a French sculptor, but he passed away in 2005. In 1982, he had the honor of representing France at the Venice Biennale with five double "columns," one of his emblematic works. During the 1983 exhibition at the Centre Pompidou dedicated to Bernard Pagès, one of these columns will be displayed, highlighting the connections and exchanges between these two contemporary artists.
